Prologue: Mysterious Fathoms Below
It was a cloudy day out at sea; a flock of seagulls lazily glided on the wind as dolphins jumped in and out of the water. And from behind the fog, a giant schooner cut through the waves, sailing proudly through the tides. On board the ship, sailors broke out into a merry sea shanty...
I'll tell you a tale of the bottomless blue,
And it's hey to the starboard, heave-ho!
Look out, lad, a mermaid be waitin' for you
In mysterious fathoms below!
Leaning on one railing of the ship was a young man with bronze skin, blue eyes, and black hair that reached to his neck. He wore a tan vest with a single breast pocket on the right side, a light denim short-sleeved shirt, brown cargo pants, and buckskim moccasins. Around his neck was a blue necklace with a beartooth-like ornament, and at his side was a white-furred wolf with tinges of gray, and a spot of brown on his nose.
"Isn't this great, Maska?" Carter Smith asked his canine companion as he ruffled his fur. "The salty sea air, the wind in your face...ahh, it feels GREAT!" Maska barked once in agreement. "What do you think, Iroh?"
Carter was talking to Iroh, a bearded, balding old man dressed in dark red robes, keeling over the edge of the boat. "Ugh...yes, it's--*hic* it's fascinating," he gurgled.
"Winds are pullin' rather light today, lads," Jack Sparrow called as he pulled down part of the rigging; Carter trotted over to help him out. "Looks to me old Cloud Strife's in a fine sort of mood today!"
"Cloud who?" Carter asked in confusion.
"Cloud Strife, ruler of underwater city of Atlantica, and merpeople," the four-eyed Jumba Jookiba responded as he placed a heaping amount of fish in a barrel. "Is funny...I thought every good earth sailor knew that story."
"How do you know about 'em then, eh?" Jack asked, raising a brow. "If I recall, you're not of this world, mate."
"Ehh, I hear stories from word of mouth," Jumba shrugged. "Good thing I hang around piers when I'm not on evil genius business."
"Merpeople...Cloud Strife...Carter, don't listen to these two," Iroh grumbled, arching his back. "All they're talking about is nothing but a folk legend!"
"Folk legend nothing! Story of Cloud Strife and merpeople is one hundred percent truth! Is whole other world down there!" Jumba snapped, waving a fish in Iroh's face. Sadly, the fish slipped out of Jumba's hands, comically slapped Iroh in the face a few times, and flew over the railing. Jack, Carter, Jumba, Iroh, and Maska all leaned over the edge of the ship and saw the little fish plop back into the water. "Oops..."
"Looks like the little fellow is on his way back home," Jack shrugged. "Probably for the best, I suppose."
"Poor handling on your part, Jumba," Iroh smirked to the alien sailor. "You'll be docked a day's pay."
"D'oh!" Jumba winced as he and Jack went back to work.
Heave, ho! Heave, ho!
In mysterious fathoms be-looow!</n>
Meanwhile, the little fish that had escaped earlier breathed a sigh of relief as he darted off into the depths...
